Bollinger submits proposal to build 11 Coast Guard vessels
Bollinger Shipyards has submitted its final proposal to the Coast Guard to build Stage 2 of the Heritage Class Offshore Patrol Vessel program.
If selected, Bollinger would build and deliver a total of 11 vessels to the Coast Guard over the next decade, helping to sustain Bollinger’s workforce through 2031. Construction would take place at the facilities from Bollinger to Houma. A study by LSU’s Economics and Policy Research Group found that the project would create more than 2,700 direct and indirect jobs and generate $7.3 billion in economic output for the state if Bollinger were chosen to build for the cutting program.
Bollinger was a finalist to build the first leg of the cup program.
The Coast Guard’s goal is to select a shipyard to construct the cutter ships by the end of June.
