DETROIT, September 10, 2021 / PRNewswire / – As Detroit Lions Kick Off An Exciting New Era of Lions Football Sunday 12 September at Ford Field against the San Francisco 49ers, a collaborative program will continue to have an impact on the community. For the fifth year in a row, Comerica Bank and the Detroit Lions will work together to ensure that the first test at Ford Field this season extends well beyond 10 meters.
Every Lions first try won this season at Ford Field will result in $ 100 which will support one of the eight community partners through the Comerica Bank Lions First Down partnership.
For the Lions 2021 home opener against San Francisco, the Comerica Bank Lions First Down program will benefit the Detroit Police Athletics League.

Over the past four seasons, Comerica has contributed $ 71,200 to 11 local community organizations through Comerica Bank’s Lions First Down program, which benefited eight charities in 2020 (Capuchin Soup, Charles H. Wright Museum of African American History, THE SED, Detroit Foundation of public schools, Alternatives for girls, Ruth Ellis Center, HAVEN, Objective: HOPE), Win futures contracts (2019), Beyond the essential (2018) and The children’s center (2017).

Founded in 1969, the Detroit Police Athletic League (PAL), which has integrated into the fabric of the Detroit community, helps youth build character and find their greatness through athletic, academic and leadership development programs through partnerships with the Detroit Police service and community volunteers.
With year-round programs featuring more than 14,000 young athletes and thousands of coaches, Detroit PAL develops its athletes to acquire the skills necessary to succeed on and off the playing field. It offers programs that help young people focus on the qualities needed to be successful through 11 different athletic programs for different ages and skill levels. For over 50 years, Detroit PAL sports teams have helped develop leadership skills and good character in thousands of young athletes.
In addition, Detroit PAL also offers youth and young adults a wide variety of personal and community development programs designed to help student-athletes be prepared for school and life. Programs focus on literacy enrichment, leadership development, academic enrichment and college readiness, mentoring, workforce development, partnerships and collaboration.
The permanent home of Detroit PAL now includes a state-of-the-art stadium on a redeveloped site of historic Tiger Stadium at the corner of Michigan and Trumbull avenues.
