FAIR City star Tina Kellegher said it was “great fun” to play Ger Lynch in the hit soap because she has “different dimensions”.
The actress plays the villainous resident in Carrigstown while Ger is the local pawnshop.
Ger is ready for revenge after his daughter Hayley is brutally attacked in a robbery gone awry.
She quickly realizes that this is Will Casey and she is about to shoot him down for playing with his family.
Tina, 54, explained that she enjoyed playing a strong female character like Ger because she said that was what attracted her to the role.
STRONG FEMALE THREAD
“That’s what attracted me to the role when [I was approached to come into the show] and how strong and colorful she would be and the different dimensions she would have, “she explained.
“Of course I liked it because there aren’t a lot of options, especially for middle aged women like me.
She continued, “The world is full of really strong women running the world roughly, but we don’t see these stories.
“It’s very refreshing and we should see more but not necessarily gangsters but good, strong women who are not afraid.
“I don’t think Ger is hooked on this whole gender thing. She will take care of any man or woman, whatever she has in front of her, she will take care of that. She’s not intimidated by men. . “
Tina also said that her character had many different “dimensions” to her and the actress said it was “fun” to play that on screen.
Speaking about her character, Tina explained, “It’s a lot of fun.
“What’s good about Ger is that I think it’s because she’s different in her life because she recently reunited with her daughter and started this relationship.
“You can sometimes see the softer, more vulnerable side of Ger and then she can be charming whenever she wants. She uses her charm with Dean. [Dowling] right now and she’s enjoying it all.
“Then there’s the really vicious side, she can hide that side, and I think that’s interesting. She has different dimensions to her, so she’s a lot of fun to play because of these things.”
Ger is known for her schemes and plans to keep her money lending business a secret.
Tina explained that she thinks Tina is “fearless” because she has had to climb the ranks in the world of crime.
“She’s strong and can be quite fearless,” Snapper’s actress explained.
“She walked through [a lot] we’re assuming in her past life in england and anytime she had to climb the ranks in the crime world as a woman then she would have started it all.
“It wouldn’t have been easy let alone nowadays. I would say the majority of this industry is male dominated so it’s obviously a real hard cookie and she’s a survivor so that’s great. to play it all – she’s very fearless. “
Tina also explained that the scenario of lending money is very relevant because money is still a real concern for many people.
“Absolutely it’s dramatized and there are twists and turns and it’s larger than life in Fair City but it’s absolutely a real worry.
“And I’m sure the total number of people turning to moneylenders has increased with the whole Covid situation and people’s financial instability is even more uncertain with the way the world is. “
The Dublin star also explained that she was taken aback by many twists and turns in her character’s story.
Ger currently has an intimate relationship with Dean and the actress said she was “surprised” that her character opted for a younger man.
Tina said: “I was pleasantly surprised to learn that Hayley was my daughter.
“So that was a nice, pleasant surprise and I also love working with Rebecca, so it’s great, we do a lot of great things together, so that’s good.
“And by that point I would have learned who the father was and all that and then it was all delayed with the whole Covid situation.
“So I would have known that for a while, but I was very pleasantly surprised by the whole Hayley story.
“Anything can happen with a character like Ger. I was a little surprised that she went for a younger man, but you’d think she would, but it was kind of like ‘Oh my god, yes. near me okay ‘. “
