The North Country Food Bank is hosting a grand opening from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, September 30 at its new location at 1011 11th Ave. NE in East Grand Forks.
A program is scheduled at 5.30 p.m.
The public is invited to stop by and learn more about the food bank‘s work to feed more people, more efficiently, said Scott Johnson, director of development.
Visitors can take tours and see the renovations and remodeling that have been completed at this approximately 35,000 square foot facility.
The grand opening, which “is long overdue,” was delayed by the COVID pandemic, Johnson said. “We are very happy to welcome the community to our new facility. ”
The North Country Food Bank opened at this location in January 2020, taking over space some parts of which had been rented by different companies and for various uses, including classrooms after the 1997 floods, said Kristen Duckstad, director of finance.
“We took down the walls and installed a cooler,” among other renovations, said Duckstad.
Prior to moving to East Grand Forks, for about 30 years, the food bank had occupied two locations – a main office on North Broadway and a bonded warehouse – in Crookston, she said.
